Napa, California: This gig was a repeat customer who had a previous black Honda SI coated with a 5-year graphene coating and was looking to get his son’s limited-edition Ford Focus RS protected as well.
When we first looked at the paint job, as you can see below in the pictures as well, the vehicle’s paint was heavily swirled and scratched. We recommended the customer get a two-step paint correction before putting the coating so that the car would look glossy and better than its showroom finish.
We started the process of paint correction and ceramic coating the car by first giving it a wash with an ultra-plush microfiber mitt, a ceramic foam wash, and then drying it with a high-GSM ultra-plush microfiber drying towel. After the wash, we performed a clay bar treatment to remove all above surface contaminants, leaving a smooth and slick surface.
We started the paint correction by using a heavy-cutting Italian foam wool pad(made with wool imported from Italy!), a heavy-cutting compound, and a high-speed buffer to remove the deeper scratches and swirls. Since the compounding process is aggressive and leaves swirl marks and holograms of its own, we followed the compounding with a second step of polishing the painted surfaces of the Ford Focus by using a soft foam pad and a finishing polish. After this second polishing pass, the Ford Focus RS looked like a head-turning blue gem, unlike anything you may have seen on the road!
Finally, we performed a detox and cleansing treatment that removed all polishing residue while serving as a primer for ensuring proper graphene coating adhesion. We then sectionally installed a 5-year graphene coating on the entire car, including the windshield, painted surfaces, polycarbonates(lights), and carbon fiber and trim pieces that would allow a proper coating bond.
Our Napa customer was super happy with the results he saw for his Ford Focus RS and couldn’t believe that his car could look this good!
